Peter Graugaard.

I'm a Danish software engineer based in Aarhus. For the past five years, I've worked on Altinget's news sites and the systems behind them.

I have a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering from DTU and this month I'm starting an MSc in Computer Engineering at Aarhus University.

I love a good technical blog, so I'm trying my hand at making at least an okay one myself, starting with the rabbit hole that became my bachelor project: building a deterministic hypervisor.

What I've been doing.

Since July 2021

Altinget

I joined Altinget in 2021 to work on Kandidattesten, and over time my work has expanded from pure frontend work, deeper into the underlying systems, as well as architecting projects with our backend team.

I've helped design and modernise much of our platform including a new login system, self-service trials and subscriptions and a new shared platform for all of our internal systems to build on. This foundation has allowed us to build new systems and migrate old ones to a shared platform that lets employees do more, is easier to use and faster to develop.

I have lots of experience talking to stakeholders and getting to the heart of their issues instead of just treating symptoms. As AI becomes a bigger part of our workdays I think the importance of cross-domain knowledge and building the right thing will only grow.

September 2023 to June 2026

DTU

I started a BSc in Software Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) because I wanted to complement my practical experience from Altinget (and programming since I was ten) with a deeper technical foundation that could help me get further. Things that matter, but a day-to-day product job doesn't have time for.

That eventually led to dhyve, the project Nicholas and I built for our bachelor's thesis. It's an open-source deterministic hypervisor designed for deterministic simulation testing (DST). Neither of us had worked in that low-level part of the stack before, but four months later we had a working system and a top grade for our project.

What's next

I just moved to Aarhus to do my master's degree in Computer Engineering and I'm looking for a software engineering job for 15 to 20 hours a week from September. In-office, hybrid, or remote can all work.

I like solving both hard technical problems and user-centered problems. I'm good at digging deep to find the root cause of a problem, but also know when to go fast and be pragmatic.
